Therapy for
C-Section Moms

It's hard to explain what it's like to have a planned or unplanned c-section unless you've had one. It's a roller coaster of emotional and physical tolls that you feel like you keep paying for at every step towards recovery.

You're not alone in your search for mental health support as you plan for or recover from a cesarean. Yes, it does matter that therapy is specific to your birth circumstances. Too often, we don't get the pregnancy or postpartum care we need because even the professionals themselves are uneducated on what's best for us.

It makes sense to talk to a professional who has unique experience with c-sections. Less explaining, more processing of what you need in this chapter and beyond.

How Therapy Can Support You

C-sections come with strengths and challenges that are rarely discussed in healthcare settings. You may or may not have a choice in delivering via cesarean and you're hoping to have a nonjudgmental space to process anything and everything.

Finding a therapist who has unique experience supporting c-section moms means you don't waste your time explaining where you're coming from, and more time invested in healing and recovery for your next chapter of personhood. Grief, celebration, relief, pain, confusion, beauty - you get to process the layers of emotions and feel supported with the help of somatic (body-based) and narrative therapies.

Therapy is a place to talk about the nitty gritty or skip the details if that's what you choose - and you deserve to feel the freedom to take the conversation where you need it to go, without the expectations of how you "should" feel.

My Approach:
Healing from the Inside-Out, Outside-In

There's no one-size fits all approach, but what we do know is that healing comes from the inside-out, outside-in. This means we need support from our environment as much as from ourselves. This could look like prioritizing physical care, or coming up with a respite plan to expedite emotional recovery. Talking out what happened may take time, and I use different conversational and nonverbal modalities to help you express the way that feels most natural and comfortable to you.

Having experienced both a planned and unplanned c-section, I integrate my lived experience with my professional training. Whether I share my own story or not - we focus on believing in your empowerment and recovery as a c-section mama. Holding you in loving presence and at times dark humor, we'll make it through together.

I have my Perinatal Mental Health Certification through Postpartum Support International. This means that I engage in continuing education to keep my certification active. The benefit to you is that I attend trainings ongoing in order to sharpen my skillset and remain abreast of best practices. I am also a featured writer on The Mother Chapter about c-sections and postpartum mental health.
